DEPARTMENT OF P.G. STUDIES IN APPLIED ZOOLOGY

Introduction:

The Department of P.G. Studies in Applied Zoology has been initiated in the academic year 2015-16 to equip the students with knowledge, necessary skills and orient them towards research in the field of Zoology. The department has the objective to provide a strong foundation and motivation for applying fundamental concepts of Zoology in basic research to meet global challenges. The department is affiliated to Mangalore University. Subjects taught for M. Sc. Students, prescribed by Department of Applied Zoology, Mangalore University, include several applied aspects of zoology.

To provide a strong foundation and motivation for applying fundamental concepts of Zoology in basic research to meet global challenges.

• Extension Activities:
• Rashmi K and Mrs. Shruthi S. along with M. Sc. Zoology students conducted an extension activity of “Wildlife Video Show” for the students of Govt. High School, Pranthya, on 28-11-2017.
• Noushin Banu and Ms. Pushpa G.R. along with II M.Sc. students have conducted an activity on “Vermicompost preparation methods”- for 8^th standard students of Babu Rajendra Prasad High School, Jyothinagar, Moodubidire, on 16^th February 2019.

• Community Orientation Programme:
• On 24^th February 2019, Dr. Rashmi K and Mrs. Shruthi S., along with 11 students of I and II M. Sc. Zoology conducted a community orientation programme on “Vermicompost Preparation Methods” for local people at Vani Vilas Higher Primary School, Ashwathpura. The programme was a part of Annual Community Camp conducted by Department of Social Work (BSW), Alva’s College. Rashmi K. gave a talk on Vermicompost preparation and students demonstrated the preparation method to the people gathered.
