DEPARTMENT OF POST GRADUATE STUDIES IN PSYCHOLOGY
The Post graduate Department of Psychology was established in the year 2014 is a part of Alva’s group of Education institution, affiliated to Mangalore University. The aim of the Department is to train students in terms of personal and professional development.
Faculties are trained to use modern technology in classroom teaching and students are provided various practical exposures. Students visiting special schools, Hospitals, industries and NGOs to learn skills and techniques to psychological assessments, counseling and psychotherapy process and to apply psychology in organizational settings. For further higher studies and development of students, department is orienting research process.

- To build deep expertise in the respective domain as well as a broad vision of the field.
- This is achieved through integrated curricula that compasses of teaching, faculty guided projects, class room activities and field works.

DURATION
The Master of Science in Psychology (M.Sc. Psychology) is spread across 2 years over four semesters. Each semester is for a period of about four months.

Course Highlights
- General seminars – Weekly general seminars will be conducted by the students which is an opportunity for them to improve their presentation skills as well as keep themselves updated with the current trends in the field.
- Book/Movie reviews and Documentary analysis – Weekly book reviews and movie review and documentary analysis are given to enhance the analytical thinking and gain different perspectives in understanding the psychological concepts.
- Field visits – Students are assigned to work on every week at special schools, counselling and rehabilitation centres and various clinical set ups to gain practical exposure.
- Internships – To explore their area of interest in the field of psychology the students are given a choice to take up the internship during the semester break.
- Module presentation – To encourage peer teaching and to develop the skill of trainer students are guided to create and present modules on various psychological aspects.
- Guest talks and workshops – gust talks and workshops are conducted regularly which helps students in understanding the applicability of the field.
- Dissertation and test construction project are part of the curriculum and this gives the students an experience in scientific writing and publication.
