B.C.A. – BACHELOR OF COMPUTER APPLICATION

BCA program was introduced in the year of 2001. The duration of the program is 3years (six semesters) with one project work. BCA is a highly sought after course under Mangalore university. It is a specialized course which provides quickest entry to the IT INDUSTRY. It also caters the need of IT enabled services, banks, BPOS, KPOS and various requirements of public and private sector. ANDROID APP DEVELOPMENT

On July 16th, 2018, Department of Computer Science hosted two days of workshop entitled“Basic Android App development workshop” at Alva’s College. Mr. Mohammed Alfaz and Mr. Syed Afnan, Aluminise of Alva’s college,were the resource persons for the workshop.

Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google, based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open source software and designed primarily for touch screen mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.The purpose of workshop was to make students learn how to develop basic apps in android and the following Android app development aspects was covered:

CYBER SECURITY

As the internet users are raising day by day, it is the responsibility internet users to be careful about online scams, bankruptcy, phishing etc. To make awareness about this to students, Computer science department has organized a Guest Talk on 06-02-2019 at Kuvempu Hall. Mangala Shetty, Assistant professor, Department of computer Science, NITTE College was the resource person.

Students got deeper insight about Cyber Crimes and Cyber Security. Also she gave brief information regarding the types and precautions for these Cyber Crimes.

She concluded that it’s better to keep an eye on our internet usage and access to social media, if any problems are raised related to Cyber Security it’s better to go according to Cyber Law- Information Technology Act 2000.

OPEN SOURCE LEARNING AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT

The term “open source” refers to something that people can modify and share because it is publicly accessible. Open source software, therefore, is software with source code that anyone can examine, modify and enhance.

To make awareness about this to students, Computer science department has organized a Guest Talk on 10-08-2019 at Kuvempu Hall. Himanshu IISC, from Alva’s Institute Of Engineeriong And Technology was the resource person. He motivated the students for developing new ideas and new application. Students got an information about the open source software’s which they can use in their education as well as personal use.

PYTHON WORKSHOP

A two day workshop entitled “Python Workshop” was organized by Department of Computer Science, Alva’s College together with AIET, Mijar during 17^th-19^th September, 2018, at AIET, Mijar. Dr. S. Mohideen Badhusha Senior Faculty, Department of Computer Science, AIET, Mijar was the resource person for the workshop. Python is an interpreted high-level programming language for general-purpose programming.The Workshop was conducted for three days .On first day of the workshop students learnt about basics of python programming and theory concepts with some basic lab programs as hands on experience. On the second day of the workshop the object oriented concepts in python was introduced to students and in the afternoon session students had practice lab programs .On third day Students were trained to do a Mini project on python.

A 4 day workshop entitled on “Development of Client-Server application using PHP, HTML, CSS and MySQL with Mini-project” was organized by Alva’s College together with AIET, Mijar during 17^th – 20^thJanuary, 2018. Dr.S.Mohideen Badhusha, Sr.Professor, CSE, AIET, Mijar, was the resource person for the workshop. The workshop was opened to undergraduate students. A detailed session wise topics which are covered in the workshop has been attached with this report.

The workshop started with welcome address by Dr.Manjunath Kottari, HOD Computer Science, AIET, Mijar. The workshop comprised of lectures interleaved with hands-on training.

IOT WORKSHOP

To make awareness about Internet of things(IOT) to students, Computer science department has organized a Workshop from 18^th November-28 th November 2019. Himanshu IISC, from Alvas Institute Of Engineering And Technology was the resource person. He explained the topics in details to program and developing IOT application. Students got an idea to develop their own application on IOT.Some of the students also developed the mini-projects based on IOT. 50 BCA students were participated in the workshop.

A guest talk was conducted by the Mr.Naresh Pai, HOD of BHS to make students aware about the procedure to apply for the study and job visa in foreign countries and also about the awareness of different English examination PES,ILPES.
