Alva’s Wikipedia Association
About Association:
Alva’s Wikipedia Association was inaugurated on 13Th July 2017, which is the “First Student Wikipedia association of India”. It supports students in learning and developing skills towards the work of Wikipedia. It is working in three Indian Languages, such as, Kannada Wikipedia, Tulu Wikipedia and Konkani Wikipedia. For the first year 24 students were trained and 08 students active in contributing articles to Wikipedia. At present 20 students are active in the work of Wikipedia where more than 100 articles are uploaded in Kannada, Tulu and Konkani together.
Why Wikipedia Association in Alva’s College?
- To develop the habit of research among students.
- To write articles for Wikipedia and add contents to the existing Wikipedia articles.
- To improve the language skills and richness in writings in 3 languages, Kannada, Tulu, Konkani.
- Worldwide readers for Wikipedia articles.
- To give a scope for students overall progress.
What it gives to Students?
- It adds valuable articles contribution by the students.
- It gives name and fame worldwide as there are readers’ and users from all over the world.
- The scope for the overall development by participation in seminar, workshops all over India.
- It adds worth in the form of achievements for good resume.
How it works?
- It is treated similar to the forum includes 50 marks for semester exam but it works more than forum schedule which includes training, learning and writing articles throughout the year.
- Training will be given in: How to use Wikipedia, editing and writing articles, using of wiki source, wiki commons, photo walks, outreach programmes and many more.
- Students write articles, conduct research work where all the credits go to students directly.
- Internship programmes and project reports for students during vacation.
