Department of Post Graduate Studies in Social Work (MSW) started in the academic year 2000 – 2001. The department is focusing on social work post graduate course (MSW) to make student self reliant and to prepare them for professional practice in the field and to mould the overall personality of the student. The department of PG studies in social work seeks to develop competent specialized social work practitioners who can integrate the knowledge, values and skills of social work in order to enhance the social functioning of individuals, group and communities. This department is committed to excellence in teaching and to integrate practice to facilitate community and students as well.
Objectives
- To prepare committed social workers to work for social justice and influence peoples’ lives by imparting six core values of social work such as Service, Social Justice, Dignity and Worth of the Person, Human Relationships, Integrity and Competence.
- Help to articulate students on suitability for social work as a career option including the delineation ofv their personal values, ideological perspectives and develop appetite to working for the needy.
- To make students to explore the knowledge, skills, values and ethics of social work profession. To understand the students more about themselves in regard to social work practice and make them to choose specialized areas of profession.
- To prepare students to understand the social context within which they live and work for and provide social service for social change.
- To prepare the students to gain a basic understanding and knowledge about the nature of social work practice and work with individuals, groups, families and communities.

Eligibility: The Candidates shall have passed any Bachelor Degree Examination from Mangalore University or any other University considered as equivalent there to are eligible for the programme provided they have secured a minimum of 45% (40% for SC/ ST/ Category – I ) marks in optional subjects.
